UCB Power supplied the battery energy storage system for a project combining solar generation and food production at a rural property in Kwali, in the Abuja region of Nigeria. According to Canal Solar, the company also handled engineering, logistics, installation and commissioning. The facility is operating and supports agricultural and livestock activities in an area with limited electricity infrastructure.<\/p>\n

According to UCB Power, the infrastructure generates approximately 13,500 kWh of renewable electricity per month, equivalent to the property's energy demand. Before the project, the site consumed about 3,800 liters of diesel monthly to generate electricity. The configuration retains diesel generators as a backup source. The company estimates that it could avoid approximately 45,600 liters of diesel consumption annually. That figure is a projection based on previous consumption, rather than an annual saving already demonstrated through operating results.<\/p>\n

The pilot uses SIPAS, the Integrated System for Sustainable Food Production, which combines renewable energy, battery storage and infrastructure for agriculture and animal protein production. Information released by UCB Power puts estimated monthly production capacity at approximately 1,800 dozen eggs and 375 kilograms of chicken meat. The project involves CIITTAA and CNX Ativa, alongside FGV Europe, a CIITTAA partner, and ENERG, which supplied the generator sets.<\/p>\n

For UCB Power, the installation provides an operating application of its storage solutions and deployment services in Africa's rural sector. According to the company, the pilot could serve as a reference for as many as 774 units in Nigeria. However, that expansion remains a future possibility, with no implementation timeline provided. The potential number of units should therefore not be interpreted as a portfolio of contracted installations.<\/p>\n
