UCB Power and Jinko ESS have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore the industrialisation of battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Brazil. The initiative is intended to combine Jinko ESS\u2019s technology, product portfolio and international experience with UCB Power\u2019s industrial capabilities, technical expertise and local presence.<\/p>\n

The first manufacturing route under consideration would use UCB Power\u2019s facility in Extrema, Minas Gerais. The companies may assess additional production alternatives depending on demand, project requirements and market conditions. Domestic manufacturing could enable certain solutions to meet local-content rules and compete for projects that require equipment made in Brazil.<\/p>\n

A primary focus will be the assessment of opportunities related to Brazil\u2019s Capacity Reserve Auction, known as LRCAP. The cooperation could also support storage applications designed to improve grid flexibility and reliability, reduce transmission and distribution constraints, and enable greater integration of renewable energy. If the relevant products and projects satisfy applicable requirements, local production could also broaden access to Brazilian financing mechanisms, including credit facilities provided by the Brazilian Development Bank, BNDES.<\/p>\n

One of the products being considered is Jinko ESS\u2019s SunTera G3, a containerised storage system with a capacity of 6.25MWh and 587Ah cells. According to the announcement, the design increases energy density without changing the container\u2019s external dimensions and is in the final stage of certification. The memorandum nevertheless marks an exploratory phase: no investment amount, production start date or firm supply contract was disclosed, and further progress will depend on demand, market conditions, and compliance with technical and financing requirements.<\/p>\n
